Join the AIA Baltimore Equity Committee for the third event of the Implicit Bias in the Workplace Series. This workshop will include a video presentation from Google Ventures about their research into the effects of implicit bias on workplace culture and performance, and the strategies the company is using to reduce bias, including new approaches to job interviews and performance reviews, data gathering techniques, inclusive workplace design choices, and ensuring accountability at all levels.
Attendees will split into small groups to discuss the presentation and how to apply the message. It is the goal of the Equity Committee that everyone walks away empowered to implement one of the strategies in their own workplace.
Explain how implicit bias may impede interactions with clients or others on the AEC project team, and the ability to make the best building design decisions.
Explain how implicit bias may influence design decisions in ways that undercut optimal emotional and physical responses of populations of building users.
Explain how implicit bias may influence design decisions in ways that undercut optimal access to the building or site for all populations.
Explain how implicit bias may influence hiring decisions in a manner inconsistent with the spirit and/or letter of federal equal employment opportunity laws.
