In addition to holding in-person activities, APA Maryland and the American Planning Association offer opportunities to earn Certification Management credits and learn new planning skills remotely.

APA Learn

APA Learn is a new service from the American Plannning Association that allows APA members to access a state-of-the-art online platform for self-directed continuing planning education for individuals and groups. It features high-quality content on a broad range of planning topics. These courses are offered for a fee that varies depending on the course content and length.

Currently, the APA Learn catalog includes nearly 400 online courses in various learning formats:

  • Recorded sessions from APA live events, including National Planning Conferences and Policy and Advocacy Conferences. These can be purchased individually or in curated collections.

  • Recorded webinars on a single topic.

  • Interactive courses that feature activities for the learner throughout the course.

  • Series — a sequence of courses purchased for one price that must be taken in a specific order. The learner must complete all courses before the series can be evaluated and logged for CM credit.

  • Collections — curated selections of courses purchased for one price that can be completed in any order, evaluated separately, and logged separately for CM credit.

Live Online Education

APA also offers live online education opportunities. These can be found by searching the educational events posted at planning.org with this search.

APA Maryland is a founding member of the Planning Webcast Consortium, which offers over 50 CM credits every year on your computer – at no cost to members of participating APA chapters and divisions that support it (like ours). Most offerings are recorded and available on the Consortium website, but CM credits are usually only available when watching a live webcast. Chapter members are encouraged to check with the Consortium on a regular basis to see what courses are being offered.
