Maryland History Advocacy Day

  • AIA MARYLAND 86 MARYLAND AVENUE ANNAPOLIS, MD 21401 (map)

Maryland deserves well-preserved historic communities, sites, and architecture, and the only way we’ll accomplish this is by working together in advocacy. On Thursday, January 31, 2019, history, humanities, architecture, and preservation advocates from across the state will descend on Annapolis to let their elected officials know that our state’s history is worth protecting. We will be advocating for the policies, programs, and funding that makes our collective work possible.

The briefing will take place at the AIA Maryland Chapter House in Annapolis and will include a look at priorities for the 2019 Session, as well as strategies for how to hold a fruitful meeting with your legislators. Legislative meetings will take place at the various office locations of our state legislators. Preservation Maryland will assist in scheduling the meetings, so please let us know about any time constraints. The annual AIA Legislative Luncheon will take place at the Chapter House, where advocates will be able to spend time with legislators. Please be sure to RSVP if you plan to attend the luncheon. The Maryland Historical Trust Preservation Awards and evening reception will be located in the Senate Office Building and requires separate registration.

Attendees make their own schedules, and they can come to as many meetings as they like, with an optional awards ceremony and reception in the evening. You do not need to commit to the full-day in order to participate, but PLEASE register for each part of the day’s activities as needed.
