The Metropolitan Policy Center is pleased to announce its fifth Annual Spring Lecture. We are excited that Robert J. Sampson of Harvard University will deliver our keynote lecture. His talk is entitled “Urban Neighborhoods and American Life." A reception will follow the lecture.

Presently, Robert J. Sampson is the Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard University, founding director of the Boston Area Research Initiative, and Affiliated Research Professor at the American Bar Foundation. He served as Chair of the Department of Sociology and taught at the University of Chicago before moving to Harvard. He also taught at the University of Illinois and was a Senior Research Fellow at the American Bar Foundation.

His most recent book, published by the University of Chicago Press, is Great American City: Chicago and the Enduring Neighborhood EffectGreat American City is based on the culmination of over a decade of research from the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods(PHDCN), for which Sampson served as Scientific Director.
